Jr. Book Club – Because of Winn-Dixie – 3/8/21

Today we’re continuing with Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. We will be reading chapters 4 through 6 today.

Today we’re going to start an activity that we’ll be working on throughout the rest of the Spring. We will be making a character scrapbook for all of the character is Because of Winn-Dixie.

There are many interesting and colorful characters in this story, and a character scrapbook is one way we can learn more about them and remember their character traits as we continue to read more.

You can pick a new character every week and make a large scrapbook, or pick just one or two characters and add to their pages every week. It is up to you how you want to work on this project!

Some things you might want to include about the characters are physical traits, like their hair color, eye color, and how tall they are; personality traits, like if they’re funny, or caring, or angry; their age, if you know it; their likes and dislikes; their hobbies; their family members; their friends; where they live; quotes from the book; and anything else that you think would help people looking at your scrapbook understand the character or characters better.

You can make your scrapbook on paper, with drawing or collage materials, or you can make one digitally on the Scholastic website and print it out. The only downside to using the web tool is that you cannot save your scrapbook pages and come back to them the next week. You will have to recreate them from scratch if you want to add more information.
